Mount Joy Memorial Day Parade--2005
If one was thinking of this year's parade, one word would come to
mind--RAIN! Everybody was soaked--there was no way to avoid it.
The rain had held off all day until the very instant when the parade started
at 2:00 pm.
Some die-hard candy lovers rushed into the rainy street to grab the soggy
candy we threw out, but most people did not bother. Although the
parade continued through the storm, Troop 53 was halted by a particularly
violent bolt of lightning that struck as we neared the Turkey Hill store.
Even though the parade ended early for us, I'm sure none of those who
participated will soon forget it!
Summer Camp 2005
Summer camp this year had its ups and downs, but overall everybody
liked it. We took our swimmer tests in the less than clear pool on
Sunday, which did not reopen until the end of the week. So all of the
swimming in between was done in the lake. While the Lifesaving merit
badge always meets at the lake, it was quite an adjustment for those in
Swimming merit badge.
The weather for the troop's evening campfires could not have been better!
In fact, the weather for the whole week could not have been much better!
Never too hot--just right.
After the first day, everyone settled into the most important part of
summer camp--the merit badges. We worked hard on merit badges all
week. In between, we had plenty of food at the dining hall to fill us
up.
In the evening after all the merit badges, we went to camp-wide games, which
are good for building patrol spirit. After that, we had our own troop
camp fire blazing where we played Troop 53 classic games such as the
"What are you going to bring to camp with you" Game. I won't
reveal the secret of this game, but anyone who doesn't know it just needs to
think about it a little bit.
The closing campfire saw Chad Eichelberger and Mr. Brian Ness called out for
the Order of the Arrow. We all left Summer Camp 2005 in good spirits,
because we had earned so many merit badges--and even advanced a few ranks.
