Sico Park Clean-up

It wasn't as productive as some of the clean-ups but we still got a lot done. On November1st, 6 scouts participated in the third and last Sico Park Clean up of the year. Hauling logs out of the stream, we once again placed them in the oversized log pile. Once again it was hard and dirty work, but we kept at it. We worked at the same spot we did last time, down the stream near the huge dam. Once again it was 9:00-12:00 noon on Saturday November 1st. Thanks to all of the scouts who participated.

Chicken Barbecue

Many people had various jobs at the chicken barbecue. There were 4 shifts in which to chose from, and the date was October 25th.  Working on cooking chicken and potatoes, bagging meals, taking and assorting tickets, filling boxes, and putting chicken and potatoes in bags were a few jobs demonstrated at the Twin Kiss. Many people worked when there weren't any customers there, breaking boxes and preparing meals. Through all of our hard work, we managed to sell 805 tickets and we cooked about 1,000 chicken dinners. There were only 15 dinners left which were quickly divided up in the end. Thanks to everyone we made one of the best fund-raisers quite successful.

Campout

The Boy Scouts of troop are always camping and April 28, 2006 is no exception.  After the Scouts of Troop 53 arrived at French Creek, they piled out of the cars and started unpacking the tents. When every one had their tents up, they started putting their personal gear in their tents.  After the tents were set up, a camp fire was created.  The lunches were prepared for the hike on the next day.

After finishing preparations for the next day, some boys went down to ask the another troop if they would play capture the flag with them at 9:00.  At 9:00 Troop 53 played an intense game of capture the flag against the other troop.  The next morning Troop 53 began a long hike that took even longer because the scouts all got lost in a big group.  Luckily the Scouts all made it back to camp with no causalities.

Finally on the last day of camp the scouts completed an orienteering course on which no one got lost.  Then after all the hiking was over the boys all undid their tents and took all their personal supplies back to the trailer and headed back home.

Spring Court of Honor

The Boy Scout Troop 53 of Maytown held their Spring Court of Honor on April 23, 2006 at Elizabethtown College .

The Boy Scouts of Troop 53 held a court of honor to recognize the achievements of all the scouts.  To recognize these scouts, the troop has a special ceremony where the scouts are awarded many badges.  During the 3 three hours, they enjoyed skits and a dinner.  At the end of the ceremony Ben Andrick, Patrick Cassidy and Kevin Myer preformed a special closing ceremony.  After the closing of the ceremony, special guests Matt Sullenberger and Tim Scales gave a presentation on a special Boy Scout Camp – Philmont.

Eagle Scout Award Achievement

On May 7, 2006, Boy Scout Troop 53 awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to Dan Rorabaugh. The ceremony was held at Glossbrenner Church in Mount Joy .

On the date of May 27, the Boy Scout of Troop 53 got together to honor two Scouts who reached the rank of Eagle.  The two boys are Greg Shultz and Matt King.  This award ceremony was held at the home of the Schultz family in Mount Joy .  They are now two of the three Boy Scouts from Troop 53 who have reached the rank of eagle in the past month.

During each ceremony, the boys received walking sticks with medals of each rank they achieved since the beginning of their Boy Scout careers.  They also received the eagle patches each Eagle Scout earns.  Also during the ceremony the leaders gave a history of the many accomplishment of each amazing scouts. After their history all Eagle Scouts present came forward to recite the Eagle Scout oath.  After the oath all the Eagle Scouts were honored by a roaring applause from all the scouts and adults present at the both ceremonies.
