BSA TROOP 53 FIFE & DRUM CORPS DRILL FOR A NEW SEASON
The Troop 53 Fife and Drum Corps from Maytown attended the Pennsylvania
Reserve Battlion Drill Weekend at Old Bedford Village, in Bedford, PA, over
the March 31-April 1 weekend. As Civil War reenactors, the fifers and
drummers of Troop 53 portray the field music of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserve
Volunteer Corps . The scouts slept in 19th century log houses that have been
reconstructed on the site, and drilled with several companies of Civil War
reenactors from the P.R.V.C. The drill helped hone musical skills and
prepare the scouts for several upcoming major reenactments. Eight scouts,
three leaders and a fife instructor attended the event.
Any Scout of Troop 53 with musical interest may join the corps which currently
boast about 14 members from Maytown, Marietta, Mount Joy, Columbia,
Elizabethtown, Rheems and Ironville. Representatives from the Troop 53
and the Fife and Drum will be present at the Harvest District Boy Scout
Recruitment Fair at Conoy Park on Rt 441 on Monday April 23 from 6:00 pm -
8:00pm. Boys who are interested in joining the Troop 53 Fife and Drum may also
contact Mike or Jeanne Cassidy at 426-3941.
