Josh Betty of Mount Joy Receives Eagle Scout Award
Boy Scout Troop 53 of Maytown is honored to announce that Josh Betty has received his Eagle Scout Award. Josh is the son of Wayne and Jan Betty of 936 Wood Street, Mount Joy, PA. The Eagle Court of Honor ceremony was held at the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, PA on Sunday, May 18, 2008, with about 40 Boy Scouts, family and friends in attendance.
Josh’s grandfathers Don Betty (and Eagle Scout too) and John Donald, delivered the Eagle Charge and Eagle Challenge to Josh and the other Eagle Scouts present. The Eagle Award was pinned by his parents. Scoutmaster Mark Rorabaugh presented Josh with an Eagle neckerchief and a commemorative hiking stick with medallions representing all of his scouting ranks and accomplishments.
Josh has been an active member of Troop 53 since 2002. He has hiked historic trails at Gettysburg and Valley Forge; biked the Lebanon Valley Trail and along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in Maryland; went canoeing on the Delaware River; hiked 32 miles of the West Rim Trail: attended summer camp with the troop at Camp Bashore in Lebanon County and Camp Rodney in Maryland. His leadership positions included Instructor, Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Chaplain Aide, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
For his Eagle Service Project, Josh organized and supervised the cleaning and sorting of the primary attic at First United Methodist Church. He made shelves for a new Christmas storage room; He also built a set of stairs for better access to remote areas of the attic. Finally, he painted a new third floor storage room.
Josh will be a senior at Donegal High School where he has participated in Choir and Concert Band.
